Its been a LONG time since I posted anything on here. Just about an entire year! And well, lots has happened since then. We completely changed our plans for our wedding, throwing everything out the window and flying down to the Dominican Republic, where, (I guess now I should call him my husband) is from. So now I get to tell you all about our journey, where we went wrong, what actually went right, and how much fun we had! More to come very soon hopefully...

Cheaper Than a Photo Booth

Ever since I started wedding planning, I've always wanted an old time photo booth with black and white photos. I wanted people to take photos and place them in the guest book, and to keep for themselves. Well, after researching how much photo booths cost (anywhere between $1000-2000) I figured that was a little too expensive for me. We've got a GREAT photographer so we wanted to save some money somehow. Well, I found the Polaroid PoGo. It is the coolest thing ever! A portable printer, printing 2x3" photos with a sticky back, in less than 60 seconds. The best part is that it uses bluetooth so you can print photos from your phone, or hook it up to your digital camera. No computer required and very simple and easy to use. The PoGo uses Zink, or zero ink, special paper so you never have to worrk about the cost of ink or smudging. The sticky back is perfect for the photo guest book I want to everyone to sign. Sometimes its nice to have a picture of who wrote what, especially if you can't read the handwriting! The PoGo is on sale right now at Best Buy for $129.99 and a pack of 30 sheeets of paper is $9.99. Not a bad deal!

A Modern Space for a Wedding in the DC area?

My boyfriend, Greg, and I (I guess I should call him my fiance, but I hate that word), got engaged this year in January. It has been a slow process for us to plan our wedding because well, we've got a lot of time. We've decided on September 19, 2009, or 9.19.09, a fairly lucky date in my Chinese culture. Since I'm not really the traditional bride, I wanted to find a modern space to have our ceremony. In the DC area, it is extremely hard to find a place that would meet my criteria and hold 300 people! We've decided to only invite a select few, about 200, to the ceremony and the rest to the reception, so that has definitely made it easier to look for a place. These are a few that I've been looking at: Art Whino, The Equality Center (for more photos go here), Woolly Mammoth Theatre, and the Newseum.

Art Whino, National Harbor, MD: Great space! High ceilings, white walls, polished concrete floors, great deal for just a short period of time, and I can hang anything up on the walls! The best part is the underground art that will stay up during the ceremony. Lots of Parking.

The Equality Center, Rhode Island Ave, NW: Very modern, lots of digital hook ups, tvs and audio, chairs are included, but can only hold less than 200.

Woolly Mammoth Theatre, D Street NW: Cool space, very industrial, small, and can't commit to dates too early in advance due to their show schedules. Parking is minimal.

Newseum, Penn Ave, NW: Great view of the city! Windows all around, nice space but carpeted floors. Parking is minimal and there is a food minimum when renting the space. I'm not sure what it is, but its with Wolfgang Puck, so its gotta be expensive for just a ceremony.

RCKNDY- Gus Furniture

My boyfriend and I have been living together for almost 3 years (in September) in our condo and as much as I love home decor and modern design, I quickly learned that it costs a lot of money to get what you want! So slowly I am trying to put together my ideal first home.

I've been looking for a rectangular, modern chandelier like this ever since I saw an episode on HGTV. I usually know where everything in an episode is from because yes, I look at that much home decor, but for some reason, I didn't know where to find this one. I looked at Restoration Hardware and it was going for $900!! And on other random sites online, it was even in the $1200 range. Luckily, my friend, David Dennis, owner of RCKNDY, a home decor store on U Street in DC, was having a sale on Gus Furniture who just so happened to have the chandelier I was looking for! After about an hour of my boyfriend and his cousin (he's an electrician, thank goodness...) trying to hang the new lighting in our dining "cove", is not quite a room in our condo, it looks fabulous! I LOVE it! It completely changed the look of my dining room. We finally got rid of that cheap, shiny shiny gold chandelier that came with the place. It seemed fairly easy to install, of course I was in the other room while the boys were working! All in all, it was a great addition to the room and a quick way to change the look and feel with a single piece.

4ftOne Design website is up!

Well I've finally joined the world of blogging! I've just started my own website for my graphic design business, 4ftOne Design and now I'm working on the blog portion. I'll post about all things design, from home decor, fashion, trends, and basically all the things I want, need, love and completely obsessed with!

The website is up, but still under construction a bit, so if you can't click on certain spots, its probably because I haven't gotten to it yet. I finally decided to make a website of all the design work I've been doing, from wedding invitations to websites, ads and packaging, I want to start getting my name out there and find new and exciting projects.
